The Friends are citizens who choose to help their local library. They are the "caring core" of libraries across the country. Operating with a self-elected board of directors, they serve as the connecting link between the library and the community helping communication flow in both directions.

They work to expand and strengthen library services and programs through fund-raising and volunteerism. They are ambassadors for the library, heightening visibility and awareness of the library and its services by representing the library in the community. Friends are lobbyists, as well. Individually and collectively, Friends use their influence to assist the library in obtaining desired financial support and representing library needs to county commissioners, state legislators and the media.
SPECIAL FUNDRASIING EVENT
The Town and Gown Players are performing the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on June 7,2012 at 8:00 p.m. This perfromance will be donation based and all proceeds will go to support the Athens-Clarke County Library. Download the show flyer for more information.
ANNUAL EVENTS
- Book Sales
Each winter for 4 days - thousands of books! Treasures for mere pennies! Find your old favorites or "nearly new" titles. A Summer Book Sale is held at the end of June each year. - Cafe au Libris
Annual pre-holiday author book signing event. Coffee, delicious desserts, and an opportunity to meet talented local authors! - Family Fun Day
Summer's grand finale - just before school opens. Family fun for all! Crafts, puppet show, storytelling, snakes, bugs, bubbles and more...guaranteed to make you smile! - Live! at the Library
The Library's free monthly concert series. The first Sunday of each month brings a new musical treat ranging from classical to blues. - Annual Meeting
Held each May. Opportunity to vote on officers and new board members, enjoy fine entertainment and mingle with other Friends.

Would You Like to Serve on the Friends Board?
There will be a new class of seven Board members joining the Friends Board in May. The Board meets monthly, on the first Tuesday evening of each month. This is a working board, and you must have access to email to facilitate communication.
