The Library has the following volunteer opportunities available:
- The Library Store
- Volunteers serve as cashiers and provide assistance to customers when making purchasing decisions. Training and support are provided to all store volunteers.
- Children's Area
- Volunteers help staff keep the Children's Area neat and organized.
- Volunteers may also help create displays and craft projects for upcoming Children's programs.
- Spanish Storyteller: Volunteer must speak fluent Spanish. All materials for Spanish Storytimes are provided by the Athens-Clarke County Library.
- *new* Story Tube Assistants are needed on Wednesday, January 20 and Wednesday, February 17 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Volunteers are needed to help our youngest patrons shoot and edit video as well as upload to YouTube. Training is provided but knowledge of YouTube is helpful.
- Special Events
- Volunteers help Library staff prepare and execute various events throughout the library.
- Heritage Room Aide
- Assist with clipping and filing Athens-related items for the library collection. This is a great way to learn about Athens!
- NEGA Talking Book Center Assistant
- Assist Library staff with incoming mail by inspecting and rewinding Talking Book Cassettes. Volunteers may perform other tasks as needed.
- Computer Instructor
- Assist the Computer Operations staff in offering computer instruction to library patrons, either in one-on-one or in a class setting. If you are interested in volunteering as an instructor, please let us know which programs and skills you are qualified to teach.
- One-To-One Reading Program (at East Athens and Lay Park Resource Centers)
- Volunteers provide assistance to the Library's youngest readers. The One-to-One Reading Program is available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
- Volunteer Tutor (at the Pinewoods Library)
- Volunteers provide assistance for students who need help with homework. The Tutoring Program is available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Winterville Library
- Volunteers assist staff with shelving books.
- Pinewoods Library
- Volunteer tutors help adult patrons on computer programs and English as a Second Language. Volunteers may also help staff organize storytelling, art projects and sports activities for the younger library patrons.
