Athens Rails: Railroading in Athens, GA
This site is maintained by Dillon Hayward, with content provided by Nikos Kavoori and other rail enthusiasts. There are photographs, videos and text about the history of Athens railroads and current information about the railroads in Athens. There are photos of old buildings now vanished along the rail lines. One example is the Clarke County Milling Company building on East Broad which has been replaced by the high rise Georgia Traditions.

Buildings Survey- Georgia
"[During the Depression] the Historical Records Survey (HRS) was created
[by the Works Progress Administration] to conduct a national records survey.
Unemployed white-collar workers, including clerks, teachers and librarians,
inventoried and cataloged state and county records." The photographs from
the Historic American Buildings portion of this program
are available for viewing online.

"Vanishing Georgia comprises nearly 18,000 photographs. Ranging from

American Memory
Created by the Library of Congress, "the American Memory
Historical Collections, a major component of the Library's National
Digital Library Program, are the multimedia collections of digitized
documents, photographs, recorded sound, moving pictures, and text from
the Library's Americana collections. There are currently over 40
collections in American Memory."

Civil
War Soldiers and Sailors System
A joint project between the National Park Service and the
National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), this site is
utilizing the efforts of volunteers across the U.S. to enter
information on every known Civil War participant listed in the
microfilm records of NARA. Not yet complete, but the categories
include soldiers, sailors, regiments, prisoners. Cemeteries, battles,
Medals of Honor, and National Parks of the Civil War.

the copy quality is poor because the original files are in fragile condition. These
are the best reproductions available."

InHeritage
The mission of InHeritage is to raise awareness of American history.
They have created a really interesting and dynamic website that in
addition to promoting their "website services for organizations
that document, display and/or promote aspects of our American
history" has wonderful content provided by small towns or local
historical societies and organizations that may not have the time,
expertise or money to develop their own web sites. This site had some
wonderful historical information including some photo archives online
about Greene County, GA and Scull Shoals, but it is not limited to
Georgia. Keep checking this site as much still seems to be under
construction.
Jamestown Rediscovery
Explores the archaeological findings by the Association for the
Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. Includes history and timeline
of Jamestown.
Making of America
"Making of America (MoA) is a digital library of primary sources
in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction.
The collection is particularly strong in the subject areas of education, psychology,
American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology. The collection
currently contains approximately 8,500 books and 50,000 journal articles with
19th century imprints."

"This selection of nineteen "Headquarters Films (HQ)" preserved in the
National Archives, represents a series of over 250 titles collected by the NASA
Office of Public Affairs between 1962 and 1981. They were produced using footage
from the various NASA research facilities and space flight centers around the
