Georgia Download Destination
It doesn't look like we'll be seeing the new NLS digital player until next year and their download program requires you to purchase an MP3 player that is beyond most people's ability. Patrons of the Athens Regional Library system, which includes Athens-Clarke, Franklin, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe Counties, will be able to download audio books for free starting May 5th. The new service is called Georgia Download Destination. It requires a valid library card, a Windows-based computer, Windows Media Player(version 9 or higher), Overdrive digital media software(free download) and access to the internet. Each audio book will have DRM protection which will describe whether an audio book can be transferred to a portable digital player and/or burned to a CD. Ipods can't be used at this time but may be compatible by the end of summer. The website for the new service is http://gadd.lib.overdrive.com.
